Upgraded BMS and proactive maintenance support improves efficiency, control and visibility at Sheffield Children’s Hospital
Sheffield Children’s is one of only three dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK, and last year saw 83,000 admissions and emergency visits through its doors.
The Trust’s estates team engaged BGES Group to help reduce maintenance response times, as well as improving temperature control and energy efficiency across this busy site.

BGES Group is providing a proactive three-year maintenance and support contract across the estate. This includes monthly planned preventative maintenance (PPM) visits, and specialist remote monitoring of the site via our energy and Controls Centre (eCC), 365 days a year.
We have also migrated the existing Trend 963 BMS to a state-of-the-art IQ Vision BMS, and upgraded the front-end graphics. This has futureproofed the system, increased efficiency and made it easier to navigate for estates staff.
We recently supported the estates team with their application for Salix energy efficiency funding, which led to us carrying out a full system survey and producing an energy saving support document, that will help drive efficiency across the estate.
The site now has an up-to-date, state-of-the-art BMS, improving efficiency and reliability. The new BMS monitoring system gives the estates team much visibility and control over systems. The ongoing maintenance package has greatly improved the function of the hospital: faulty components have been replaced and potential issues are addressed before they become problems, not after.
The Head of Estates at Sheffield Children’s is delighted with the outcome. He says, Sheffield Children’s Hospitalv1.0
“We have really benefitted from this working relationship. The management team at BGES Group are always happy to help us no matter the size of the job; they have even helped us devise a plan to reduce the Trust’s energy consumption, helping us toward our overall Carbon Reduction Plan. And, last but not least, the team of engineers are highly skilled in their jobs and no task is too difficult for them, they are well mannered and always arrive with a smile on their faces. I know that I can count on BGES Group to help us out when things have gone wrong.”
We will continue to provide proactive maintenance and support across the estate. The next CAPEX project will involve integrating the air conditioning and variant refrigerant flow systems into the new BMS.
“Working with BGES over the past few years has felt like a breath of fresh air to our estates department, the level of service is exceptional. We feel we are supported by a team of experts in their field who really understand our needs and our vision for the future.”
