Delivering BMS engineering excellence for Europe’s cleanest gas-fired power station
Operated by SSE Thermal, Keadby 2 is an 840MW gas-fired power station under construction in North Lincolnshire.
When operational, it is set to be the cleanest, most-efficient gas-fired power station in Europe, allowing the UK to move away from coal and integrate more renewables into the power grid. BGES Group is engineering and producing Keadby 2’s building management systems (BMS), as well as undertaking the primary installation pack.

Our work on Keadby 2 demonstrates how we apply technical excellence in a vast, complex and logistically challenging environment.
As ECIA members, our team has the necessary experience to work in line with strict industry guidance and adopt procedures that meet the standards of this Category 1 infrastructure project. This includes operating in accordance with NAECI blue book protocols and NRL payroll, in conjunction and collaborating with 13 other contractors.
Our engineers have worked on various electrical and controls installations of containment and wiring, heating/ventilation systems, emergency smoke systems, fire alarm systems, power generation, and process control DCS IAC systems. We’ve worked in all buildings across the site – from the cooling towers to the main turbine halls, installing primary and secondary containment with GRP, stainless steel and hot dip galvanised products.
Each building has specific needs – including C4-rated harsh environments requiring corrosive resistant panels, and cavernous naturally ventilated turbine halls which required miles of specialist cables to be installed.
To make the BMS more user-friendly, we’ve included high-definition touchscreens on every panel, which offer access locally across the site.
Communication has been fundamental to the project’s success, and despite the complexity of the site, the design and installation process has been described as ‘seamless’.
We always aim to exceed customer expectations, and this project is no different. Since starting work on Keadby 2, we’ve been invited to work with seven different contractors on site including Exyte Hargreaves, Siemens, SSE, Tyco, Johnson Controls, Seagull and Sheridan Fire Protection.
Tyco commissioned BGES Group to assist with the installation of the fire and gas safety alarm systems at Keadby 2.
This is a challenging and complex site with a high spec fire safety system that the team at BGES Group have delivered to our high standards. Simon and his team are highly experienced, and nothing is too much of a challenge. It is not only BGES Group’s significant technical ability that sets them apart, but their regular, excellent communication, which is really important on a project of this scale.
